Job Overview

As a barista, your primary responsibility is to provide excellent customer service while preparing and serving a variety of coffee-based beverages. You will be responsible for taking customer orders, operating coffee equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a positive overall experience for customers. Your role will require attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Greeting customers with a friendly and welcoming attitude, taking their orders, and addressing any questions or concerns they may have. Providing recommendations and suggestions based on their preferences.
  • Coffee Preparation: Expertly preparing a variety of coffee drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, macchiato, and drip coffee. This involves grinding coffee beans, operating espresso machines, and using other equipment to brew coffee according to specific recipes and customer preferences.
  • Menu Knowledge: Being knowledgeable about the menu offerings, including coffee options, tea, and other beverages. Being able to explain the different flavor profiles, ingredients, and potential allergens to customers.
  • Milk Steaming and Beverage Assembly: Skillfully steaming and frothing milk to create creamy and textured foam for drinks like cappuccinos and lattes. Assembling and garnishing beverages with precision and attention to detail.
  • Cash Handling: Processing payments, operating cash registers or POS systems, and accurately handling cash transactions. Following proper cash handling procedures and reconciling cash registers at the end of your shift.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area, including the coffee preparation station, espresso machines, grinders, and other equipment. Regularly cleaning and sanitizing utensils, cups, and other serving items.
  • Product Knowledge: Keeping up-to-date with industry trends, new coffee blends, brewing methods, and alternative brewing options. Sharing your knowledge with customers and making recommendations based on their preferences.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating with other baristas, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service. Assisting with food preparation, restocking supplies, and supporting team members during busy periods.
  • Special Requests and Customization: Accommodating special customer requests and dietary restrictions, such as using non-dairy milk alternatives or adjusting the sweetness level of drinks. Paying attention to detail and ensuring accuracy in fulfilling customer orders.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring consistent quality in coffee beverages by following standard recipes and preparation methods. Regularly tasting the coffee to maintain its flavor and quality.

Skills and experience required:

  • 3 Years prior experience as a barista with knowledge of espresso-based beverages and latte art skills.
  • Training or certification in coffee-related courses or workshops.
  • Knowledge and passion for coffee and coffee preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with different coffee beans, roasts, and brewing techniques.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash transactions and operating the cash register.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying coffee supplies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure the consistency and quality of coffee beverages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Adherence to hygiene and safety standards, including maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
